A Lesson Learned: by Robin Thomas
When the tank is on empty, fill it with worship, supernatural fuel.
“When I hear the praises start, my child, I want to rain upon you, blessings that will fill your heart.” –Keith Green
Worship is one of those things that can be done literally anywhere. In the shower? Yep. While loading the dishwasher, or in your work cubicle? Yep, yep. On your couch, in your car, at the grocery store, while making dinner, in a coma? Also YES! Your mind, “where the praises start” can worship anytime, day or night, with an Amen or an Alleluja, a prayer, or a song.
On December 20, 2016, Apple released the first set of Airpods. Not that the wired earbuds didn’t do the trick, but the flexibility and sound just upped the ease of playlist perfection. When I hear a new song on the radio or we sing something new in the church, that I love, I add it to my Worship playlist to stockpile my “get out of the pit free” cards. I pop in my AirPods and tune in to my worship playlist.
Worship creates a direct line between the creator (God) and His creation (You).
In the Old Testament God says, “The people I formed for Myself will declare My praise.” Isa 43:21 refers to his chosen people wandering in the wilderness.
In the New Testament on Palm Sunday, the week before Easter, when Jesus rode through Jerusalem on the back of a young donkey, the people were praising him, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.”(Luke 19:38). Some of the Pharisees told Jesus to control his disciples, they were making a scene. And Jesus said, “If these keep silent the very stones will cry out.” (Luke 19:40). The Lord is worthy to be praised.
The purest connection between God and us is through worship because it is a personal opening of your soul to God. That is why it can be done at any time and in any way.
What? Don't I have to be in a church to worship?
Not even a little.
Someone asked the question on Facebook, “What can instantly improve your mood?”
I answered without hesitation, WORSHIP.
Don’t think just act. I just sing my favorite praise songs inside my head. And like the Keith Green song says, “…when I hear the praises start, my child, I want to rain upon you, blessings that will fill your heart…” And the connection opens, the tears come, and whatever has burdened my soul seems to lift away for a time.
My method may not be your method, you may read a poem of praise, or you may sit in the middle of a field surrounded by nature and recite a prayer. You may be in the middle of the ocean with a fishing rod connecting to God. Opening that connection to God will improve your mood. Would it not be nice to let God carry the burden for a while?
The rest of the lyrics for that Keith Green song are:
“…I see no stain upon you because you are my child and you know me, to me you’re only Holy, nothing that you’ve done remains, only what you do for Me.”
